Graphene has been increasingly used as nano sized fillers to create a broad range of nanocomposites with exceptional properties. The interfaces between fillers and matrix play a critical role in dictating the overall performance of a composite. However, the load transfer mechanisms along graphene-polymer interface and interfacial thermal conductance have not been well understood. In this work, we conducted molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the influence of surface fictionalization and layer length on the interfacial load transfer in graphene-polymer nanocomposites. The interfacial thermal conductance and its dependence with surface functionalization were also studied, taking into account the effects of model size and thermal properties of graphene. The simulation results show that oxygen-functionalized graphene leads to greater interfacial shear force than hydrogen-functionalized and pristine ones during pull-out process. Some models were established to demonstrate interfacial load transfer mechanisms and estimate the thermal conductivity in nanocomposites. These results are believed to be useful in development of new graphene-based nanocomposites.

主讲人介绍

Dr. Yan, received his PhD from the University of Sydney in 1998, is an associate professor at Queensland University of Technology, Australia. He is a researcher in the field of materials engineering and nanotechnology, mechanical characterization and numerical simulation. He has secured more than A$5 million research funding including 2 Australian Research Council (ARC) fellowships and 11 ARC grants. In collaboration with many top international research organizations, he has conducted extensive research on structure-property relations in various materials and advanced composites. His experimental and numerical work on elastic-plastic fracture has made significant contributions to development of new failure criteria and evaluation of fracture energy in adhesive joints and composite structures. He has been the committee member of Australian Fracture Group. He has also established a reputation in characterization of thermal-mechanical behavior of thin films, micro- and nano-devices and small sized materials, confirmed by the invitationas the chair of the composites symposia of Australian Materials Societies (2007, 2014) and the co-chair of manyinternational conferences. His current research interests also include toughening mechanism in biological and functional materials. He has been the examiner for many funding agencies such as ARC, FCT (Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology), FNR (Luxembourg National Research Fund) and Ministry of Science and Technology, China. He has published 130 papers in international journals.
