College of Aerospace Engineering of Chongqing University is of a long and established history and superiority. The Mechanics teaching and research group was founded in 1948, the first major of Engineering Mechanics was founded in 1978, and the recruit of undergraduates and graduate students was started in the same year. The Master Degree authorization in Solid Mechanics was approved in 1981. In 1985, the Department of Engineering Mechanics was established. In 1986, the Doctor Degree authorization in Solid Mechanics was approved. In 2003, the "Mechanics Discipline" became the first grade discipline of the Doctor Degree authorization in mechanics field, which covers four second grade disciplines, i.e., "General and Fundamental Mechanics", "Solid Mechanics", "Fluid Mechanics" and "Engineering Mechanics". In 2004, the Post-doctoral Center of Mechanics was founded, and in 2006, the "Mechanics First Grade Discipline" of Chongqing University was authorized as the Key Discipline of Chongqing. To meet the demands of fast development of national and regional aerospace industries in China, in December of 2013, Chongqing University brought into full play its potential of engineering, and established the College of Aerospace Engineering based on the "Mechanics First Grade Discipline". To date, the Professional Master Degree authorization in Aeronautical Engineering,  the major for undergraduates in Aerospace Engineering , and the Academic master's degree in Aeronautical Engineering have been established.

      At present, the College of Aerospace Engineering has over 400 full-time students including undergraduates and graduate students. There are total 80 staffs, including 67 faculty members of high teaching and research level. The College of Aerospace Engineering has 18 full-time Professors, 26 full-time Associate Professors, 11 full-time Assistant Professors, and 13 full-time Postdoctors. There are total 97% faculty members having Ph.D. Degree, and 95% faculty members having the oversea research and working experience. Within the faculty members, many of them got the "Titles" of national level or regional level. For instance, there are 1 Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 professor of “Ten thousand talents plan leading talents in scientific and technological innovation”, 1 Expert of "National Oversea Talents Plan" , 1 professor of "Distinguished Young Scholar (Type B) of the National Science Foundation", 4 professors of "New Century Excellent Talents Supporting Plan of State Education Ministry", 1 professor of "Hundred-Talent Programme of Chinese Academy of Sciences", 1 professor of "Bayu Scholar", 2 professor of "Hundred-Talent Programme of Chongqing City", 2 professors of "Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellows", 5 professors of "Hundred-Talent Programme of Chongqing University", 9 Academic and technical leaders of Chongqing, 2 professors of "Most Cited Chinese Researchers" issued by Elsevier (2014-2019 ), etc. Now, there are three Departments in the College of Aerospace Engineering, i.e., Department of Engineering Mechanics, Department of Fundamental Mechanics, and Department of Aerospace Engineering. There are also some important research and education platforms, including "The Joint Research Center for Space Exploration of the State Education Ministry", "The Chongqing Key Laboratory of Heterogeneous Materials Mechanics", "The Chongqing Teaching Demonstration Center of Mechanics Experiment", "The Research Institute of Engineering Mechanics", "The Research Center of Engineering Numerical Simulations", etc.
