The Department of Aerospace Engineering (DAE) was founded in 2014 with the development of the discipline and the major of aerospace engineering. The Department offers Master’s and Professional Master’s degree in Aerospace Science and Technology as a first-level discipline (enroll students in mechanical engineering field and energy power field, respectively), and Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering. With the substantial support from Chongqing University (CQU) and especially the College of Aerospace Engineering, CQU, the department has established a number of laboratories for undergraduates’ teaching, including one virtual simulation laboratory, one wind tunnel laboratory, one aviation material laboratory, one aviation structure laboratory, one micro aircraft laboratory, and etc. The research condition and innovative practice environment are both first-class.
The department has one extinguished teaching and scientific research team. At present, the department has six Professors, four Associate Professors and nine Lecturers, including one talent with the “Hundred Talent Program” of Chinese Academy of Science, one Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow, one member of the Higher Education Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, three Science and Technology leaders and candidates of Chongqing, one talent with the “Hundred Talent Program” of Chongqing, two talents who have been enlisted on the Elsevier High Citation Scholars for seven consecutive years, two standing directors of national society, one recipient of the special government allowance of the State Council.
The staffs of the department take charge of the teaching and talent cultivation responsibilities for those students who majored in aerospace engineering. With years of development, the department has established one complete specialized curriculum system, which lays solid foundation for the cultivation of high-level talents. The scientific research fields of staffs including Aerospace Composite Materials, Nondestructive and Health Monitoring of Structures, Aircraft Structure Fatigue, Design and Analysis of Aerospace Structure, Design and Analysis of Aero Engine, Flight Dynamics and Control, and etc. The faculty team has undertaken a large number of national, provincial and ministerial projects including national key projects of the Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), special projects of aero-engines and gas turbines, pre-research projects in military, and etc. With the faculty staffs’ endeavor, prominent research results have been achieved.
